We do have a complicated society of many people and many of these people feel the need for a governing system to ensure local and national progressive flow.
We have authority in every aspect of our lives, uniforms and titles which are given to those who have either worked for them or earned them through blood or chance.
For those in authority, I urge you to remember your duty of care in your role. Remember your power is given to you as a function of progress. It is not for you to be the power but to use it as a tool. To ensure that at all times that you as a person in power does not make it personal means to remember it as a function of your work and nothing more. It does not entitle you personally.
Please remember that you will be emulated. Because of the reasons you were handed your role, this shows people who are near to you that you are respectable and true. A disrespectful attitude and a harmful motive in your actions no matter how small will be picked up on and seen as appropriate. Treating everyone including those who are far beneath you in your line of work with the same dignity and respect you yourself feel you require is the only way to demonstrate you deserve your role.
When explaining errors or requests remember that the other person wants to do well and is not your enemy.
For politicians, the way you speak to each other on the television is abhorrent. The remarks and bickering, the back chat and noise that you, figures of respect and authority, show are causing the people of our society to this as the norm. It is customary to jeer and slate others for many people. This is counter productive to society. The way I have heard politicians referring to the regular person in tone as some form of second species to be told what to do and patronised is causing people again to emulate this and attempt to boost their own self esteem by identifying those below them in the projected social standing ladder, another manifestation of the way people are mistreated by you.
For medical professionals, you are dealing with people's lives. They need a companion not a manager. People feel most empowered and therefore most able to get well when they are in charge of their own lives. You as a professional have to remember that your uniform and title can hypnotise people into submission. Do not take it further than necessary. Of course be blunt and firm but be genuine. Be a human being with a human being.
For Police Officers, you joined the force because you dislike crime and disorder. You took a brave choice to help protect people. Remember you are employed to protect. Protecting is not judgemental, it is not invasive and it is not disrespectful. Remember you have been given a role in society for the benefit of it. If you at any point receive orders which you feel bring no positive outcome or an unacceptable negative one then it is your duty to protect society and refuse your orders. It is the one who acts upon orders who goes home with mucky hands. The one who signs for the orders has personally hurt no one, their power is agreed upon by the order taker.
I want to say the same to the armed forces. You signed up to protect society from wrong doing. Make sure you do not become that wrong doing. Your humanity is more important than the orders of any ranking officer. It is your duty to reject any form of damage to society and use your training and power to ensure progress continues.
My final point, by progress, I mean a continuing effort to produce a happy, safe and productive society of free people.
