This however is like a plaster on a human made problem, and until we solve the problem we will always need that plaster.Poverty is about quality of life and that is based on how hungry, how thirsty, how healthy and how free you are. It is these things we need to make sure are in abundance. Food, water, health care, liberty. Education is an important part of providing these things, and schools are needed for this, people need to work in the schools also. Schools can be built and teachers paid to teach and this is why money can be very useful Hospitals and medicines can be built. And I am sure many millions of people are very grateful for what they have been given in this way.
However there are still many problems. Many are starving and have no-where to turn to. Many are working hard for such a small pay that they are constantly hungry. This is a big problem and one which in my world, I do not have the patience for. I want it solved now.
What causes the problem. Selfishness is a big word which accurately describes why some people cannot feed themselves in any situation. A human being who is starving is a sign of the lack of care being expressed by neighbouring people who have enough.
What is the most selfish being on Earth? You may say human beings but I'd go one step further. The most selfish
being on Earth is the Capitalist Public Business.By having rights of their own, and have a direction devised by
human beings, their prime motive in life to to acquire profit. It is their only purpose. So by offering them an avenue for profit they will take it and they will keep taking it as long as it continues to be profitable. It is what they do, it is in their nature.
We then have a responsibility to bear that in mind when dealing with these entities. It is good to find out the moral ethics of a company before deciding to spend money with them. By giving them your personal money for their service, you are personally lubricating their work. If their work creates suffering then that is a responsibility for you to take action. The best action to take is to no longer give that company your money. Boycotting does work but it has to be a global effort in today's society.
If you yourself are in business then please make sure you only provide a network for those who care about who they get their produce from. By buying exported goods from places which are high in poverty, the land used to produce those goods for you in not providing what the people need.
We cannot eat and drink money. We cannot live underneath it nor can we use it to make anything particularly useful. By paying for goods from these places, we are not necessarily pulling them out of poverty. So many times the money we spend is absorbed into the rich classes and it does not trickle down. Wages remain low regardless of profit.
Many countries with high levels of poverty export food. We buy that food and create demand. Stop buying from
countries which struggle. Also, if you want bananas or pineapples and they come from a developing country, try to get fair trade. Although many question the viability of fair trade, it is surely a right step.
Grain is used to feed cattle and other meat animals which is grown in developing countries. These cattle are eating food which could feed more people than their body weight. We then eat the steaks and burgers. Not eating meat altogether, or reducing the amount you eat will reduce the demand for this grain, freeing up land to grow food for home.
When we chose to buy meat which has been reared on imported grain, we are personally asking the starving to hand over food they could eat in exchange for some money of which they receive a tiny amount and then go hungry. We cannot forget this. We cannot forget that the grapes we buy in the winter time from the developing world are being given to us when that same plot of land could be growing seasonal fruit and veg for the locals who are now going hungry. By accepting the very real personal responsibility for this action, we may stop making the choice so often. Let's be honest, the natural way of a corporate entity is to make profit. If we provide that profit then it will be made for ever. We must change our buying habits for them to change their selling habits. Why ask a gambler to stop if every time they play, they win? People's lives are at stake and the sad fact is a business doesn't care. People care and people are the ones who make the choices. We all have to make the right ones.
Resources are often the cause of war. A nation with rich resources are typically friendly with a super power or at logger heads with one and are continually defending themselves. The international community make various claims about why military presence is required, and really, it is again for profit. War is a business and by allowing war to occur, the business thrives. If the war is about resources, if people are dying over resources, then surely we as individuals have to address how many of the resources we personally consume. Without the demand there would be no profit, without the profit there would be no one to fight for it. Try to reduce your use of plastic, oil, gasoline or petrol, diesel, and other products that come from crude oil. Saying no to the business on this end will help put a stop to their actions.
You are the consumer, you choose what to consume and where it comes from. We have never before had so much choice, let's not be little children in the sweet shop. Let's take a bit of responsibility and not allow some of these networks of suffering to be aided by our buying of their results. Is the grape that tasty that you'd take it from the hand of a hungry man?
