With most computer games of original design, we find ourselves playing within the realm of a pre-designed level that follows specific procedures and rules. The objectives of the game are to learn techniques and solve puzzles in order to gain a confidence within the given level and then we are presented with some kind of end level task. Often in the form of a boss, or a surprise twist to the storyline, we are called upon to use all of our learned skills and combine them in a way that creates an ability to overcome this new challenge. Once we have discovered the method and have acquired a good command of our new skills, defeating the boss is a matter of trial and error, perseverance and eventual repetition of the manoeuvres which seem to have the most effect.
