A Children's Poem
by Rowan Blair Colver
Doctor Octopus was busy all day long
It took ages to get all the jobs done
No matter how hard he worked
He was always needed by someone
With an arm he makes Hippos bed
While inspecting Giraffes head
Somewhere someone rings a bell
And he takes a look at them as well
With an arm he checks Frog's knee
And with another he has a cup of tea
Monkey says she cannot feel her toes
Doctor Octopus leans in, holding his nose
Hyena needs some pink medicine soon
So Doctor Octopus prepares the spoon
A telephone rings under papers and sheets
"My son is sick" Mrs Sheep bleats
Now he's tried to do too many things
And his arms got tied up like string
Before too long he became a knot
Arms all tangled from doing a lot
So Hippo, Hyena, Giraffe and Frog
Each took an arm from this giant knot
As they pulled and Monkey tried to see
Which of his hands had the cup of tea
When he found the saucer and white china cup
Doctor Octopus wouldn't give it up
"This is my reward for helping you all"
He said while the others pulled and pulled
"I'll get you another, this has gone cold"
Said the nurse who by now had been told
And as he let go of his precious golden tea
His arms began to slip quite easily
With a twist and a pop Doctor Octopus was free
And he stumbled backwards suddenly
With a thump and a crash he tumbled and fell
"I need a doctor" he said "I don't feel well"
