A Poem by Rowan Blair Colver
As a being of this universe,
I respect that I am bound by its nature.
As a being of nature,
I respect that I am responsible for my own.
I look for instruction in the world I am in,
Through the actions of people and the actions of the wider world.
The behaviour of creatures and the feeling of the land,
Are analogies for everything I need to know.
Through every conscious moment,
I grow towards the light.
I will protect what is mine and respect what is not,
When I am hungry I will eat, when I am thirsty I will drink.
My attachment stretches to the things I need and to the people I love,
But I have faith in myself on my own.
I give fruit as much as I take from the ground,
And bloom with colour when the weather is right.
I will communicate and sing in humble unique ways,
And I will seek the voids and find a way for them to flourish with life.
This is the way of nature as is the way I choose,
And as I reach with tall branches, I grow deep with strong roots.
