A Poem by Rowan Blair Colver
Hi, this is God
I’m speaking through my creation,
A poet in his own right.
You may call him mad,
Or a little crazy,
But that’d be so sad,
Cos I made him rather sexy,
And he doesn’t profess to be me,
Or know anymore of me than you,
But sometimes he can hear me,
And he speaks the fraction of what comes through.
So listen up and listen good,
You people, you clowns, you beauties, you boys in the hood,
Don’t ever do things in my name,
I can do them by myself,
My Will Be Done,
So don’t worry about it, I’m on it,
Do things in your own name.
I know this poet is speaking as me for purposes of ministry and art,
I forgive him for being so vain.
And that Jesus bloke,
He was pretty damn cool,
The reason I permitted his legacy to last,
Is because his message is a tool.
In the hands of wise folk, good heart natured men (and women)
The message is inspirational and powerful,
For living a full and whole life,
But don’t think because he went through hell,
Because he loved you so damn much,
It doesn’t mean I’ll let you off the hook,
Until you learn how to LOVE,
Stop destroying my body,
That’s right, the place where you stand,
Did He not tell you, you eat me with your hands?
You drink me in your wine, He said,
The Holy Blood Divine,
I am everywhere and everything,
And I hear those lovely songs you sing,
About ethics and righteousness and good,
And then I see you killing tortured animals,
So you can have luxury food,
Or worse still unable to do the deed yourself,
So you pay your little penny,
For the steak on the shelf,
I know you’re only human,
I know you’re doing your best,
But there’s a reason someone had to invent a bullet proof vest,
Calm down, the lot of you,
Give this guy a hug,
Give the other guy a hug as well,
Hell,
Jesus was the King of Kings,
Because an arrogant dictator needs a leash,
An ethic he can look to,
When his people rise from underneath,
But you can be your own king,
Wear your face up eye,
I gave every head a crown,
I know I made it exquisite,
But there’s more to life than the ground.
